"Peter Denies Christ " |
| |
 |
| Peter Denies Jesus, Matthew 26:69-75 |
|
Jesus told the disciples they would deny him and at Peter's declaring he never would Jesus predicted Peter would deny him three times before the rooster crows twice.
The arches in the top left hand corner depict the gates of Jerusalem. A servant woman at the gate was the recipient of Peter's first denial. (Jn. 18:16) The second denial came when another woman recognized him. The third comment of Peter being one of them came form a servant of the high priest and relative to the one who's ear Peter cut off during Jesus' arrest. As soon as Peter denied it, at that moment the rooster crowed. And the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Luke. 22:61
Peter remembering what Jesus had said, went outside and wept bitterly. (Depiction of the images of Peter with his hand on his head and stomach and the image of the rooster overlapping.) Jesus’ unjust trial is indicated by the scale in the top right corner. The unjust scales of justice in indicated by different colors. The red side of the cross indicates the blood He shed for the forgiveness of sins, note the chalice. Peter was supposedly crucified upside down. (Note: the cross at the end of the path.)
I hope you enjoy this painting with a Pneuma experience. Pneuma is the part of you that responds to God. |
